Posted: 09 Apr 2020 06:22 AM PDT disclaimer: my personal point of view is mostly based on the EU server as I am from europe and only play on the european servers. This is mainly about ArcheAge:Unchained, I dont know if legacy is effected by this aswell or not. There is a TL:DR at the bottom. Even if you dont care about the TL:DR a vote in this strawpoll would mean a lot: strawpoll: https://strawpoll.com/8c327psh. English is not my first language so im very sorry if some of it is written in a confusing manner. I am not used to writing texts this long! As most of you are probably aware, the event timers for ArcheAge have been changed a few weeks ago. This was done in kind of a sneaky/weird way by changing the times on the PTS and not really mentioning it anywhere. Most people referrem to it as "ninja changes". I, and several others (guildmates, but also people I dont know) have tried communicating this several times on the community discord with no success. We are basically being put on hold and ignored. This used to be the same with goldbuyer reports, until they got posted onto reddit and the post got traction. So this is why im here: Even if you are not from EU or playing on the EU servers, please consider upvoting the post so the devs cant ignore this huge issue any longer. If it helps against goldbuyers, maybe it helps here aswell! Now, new timers obviously arent inheritantly bad! The old timers were critiqued by quite a few people and with good reason, they were not perfect and had some issues (some of which were adressed/fixed by the new timers). But what we got instead is a complete mess. In the following I will go over what the new timers changed exactly, and what the consequences of this are. The timers are (and have always been) quite complex. To cover them as much as I can without writing a literal book about it, I will look at 3 diffrent "groups" of events. I will be using shortforms for all the events because typing them out every single time will take up unnecessary space and reading time. 1) "Dailies": These include Golden Plains Battle (Halcy), Red Dragon (RD) and Fall of Hiram City (FoH) 2) "Casual Worldbosses": These can be done by most people and arent too contested - but in return also less lucrative. These include Abyssal Attack (Abyssal), Lusca Awakening (Luscas) and maybe Delphinad Ghost Ships (DGS) 3) "Hard Worldbosses": These will require preperation, knowledge of mechanics, can be contested by enemy nations or rival guilds but also have significant value when defeated (either in gold or boss-drop-only items that have a major impact on PvP). These include: Kraken, Leviathan (Levi), Charybdis, Black Dragon (BD). DGS will be in this group if you consider them too hard for Casual players. Firstly, let's look at the "Daily" group of these events. I will be using the servertime (UTC) to describe these times, but note that because Europe has several timezones and cultures what is lunchtime for one person might be closer to 4PM for another person. The goal with these should be to spread them around the day so as many peopleas possible can participate in them atleast once per day, because their rewards - while being very basic in nature - are essential for progression. The old timers didnt fullfil this criteria at all, Halcy had 2 windows, 1 at around lunchtime UTC where lots of players were not logged in because of work/school/university/... or just simply eating lunch at the time! The second time Halcy opened was at 8 PM ish UTC which is spot on primetime and lead to the servers being helplessly overworked, halcy being a laggy mess and most people dreading the instance. The RD instance fell into the same exact sort of problem: it was 30 minutes (i believe) before halcy so the same problems applied. On top of that, if you took more than 30 minutes to clear the RD intance, you would miss the initial halcy pops and get into a very long queue which meant you were very likely to not get all your halcy entries done. FoH arguably has the worst rewards and therefore the least impact on progression etc, but for some reason it has BY FAR the best time slots! You could enter it for several hours every day. Alright, lets take a look at the "Casual Worldbosses". Luscas moved from being every day at 6PM UTC to being at 10PM UTC. This 4 hour shift backwards makes a huge difference! One could argue that nobody cares about luscas anyway, but: Abyssal is directly tied to Luscas! Its always 30 minutes earlier. This means, that Abyssal was also pushed back 4 hours, from 5:30 to 9:30PM. Now, Abyssal - in contrast to Luscas - can very well take an hour or two. You have to kill the Kraken in the middle, then the actual event starts. It can be very tedious to complete it if theres a lot of people doing the "Destroy the guardstone" quest or are just trying to deny the event from going through. If it does, the fight for crystals and packs starts. This is very fun to be a part of, but it rarely happens before 10:30 UTC these days. Now, keep in mind what was said about UTC as a timezone: France, Germany, Italy and the Skandinavian Countries are currently in UTC+2, so Abyssal not happening until 10:30 UTC means that for a very big portion of the playerbase, the action doesnt even start until about 0:30AM. And then you have the Turkish and Russian players (who also make up a huge part of our population) who have an even later timezone. So for them its likely to be 1:30 or 2:30 in the morning for this to even start. As a result Abyssal has been very empty over the past days and our guild went a total of 2 times over the last 3 weeks I believe. DGS are 15 minutes after Abyssal starts, but they are very straight forward so I dont see a lot of issues with those. You kill the thing, hand in the packs and ur good. This can be done in around 30 minutes most of the time and while moving them forward for russian and turkish players would be nice, I think keeping DGS as is would be fine too. Now, the real dealbreakers. The "Hard Worldbosses". Kraken, Levi, Charybdis and BD all spawn at 9:30 UTC. On a monday theres nothing, on a tuesday you have Kraken and BD, on wednsday there is only the siege. On thursdays there are Levi and Charybdis, on fridays theres nothing, on saturday theres nothing and on sunday you have literally every WB spawning. Kraken, Levi, Charybdis and BD at 9:30 UTC. This schedule is obviously paired with events from the "casual WB" group, such as Abyssal on TUE/THU/SAT and DGS every day, but I will ignore those for now as we are strictly speaking about the "Hard WB" group. These timers make absolutely no sense. Not at all. Leviathan spawning at 11:30 or later (this is the case for everybody not living in the UK, Spain, Portugal or maybe fucking Greenland, idk and even then its only 1 hour earlier) means that you are basically guranteed to stay up till 1:30 or later. Killing it usually takes about 1 hour so if you want to make sure nobody kills it you would have to stay up until 2:30-3:00AM. This is honestly not acceptable. Most of us have jobs, go to school, university or have a family. Staying up until 3 in the morning will make all of the above very hard for you and frustrating for whoever has to deal with you. I dont want to go to Uni with 3 hours of sleep. Im pretty sure working or spending time with your family with these amounts of rest is also very stressfull. But it doesnt have to be like this! Not at all! There is virtually nothing going on from 4PM UTC until 9PM UTC. Thats 5 hours where not a single worldboss spawns. Is 5PM UTC too early for some players to be on because of work etc? Sure. But it would still be a better solution than having it where it currently is. And the real primetime (probably around 6-8 UTC so 8-10 for most european countries is literally unused. There is NOTHING happening. Its completely wasted. So my appeal would be to change 2 things: better utilize primetime for events and shift some spawns to mondays/fridays. These days are literally boring. There is nothing going on! All of the above in mind, I would suggest the following Event timers: "Dailies": Halcy Every Day at 1PM UTC (so 2-3PM for most players), 4PM UTC, 7PM UTC and 9PM UTC. "Casual WBs": These should be way earlier than they currently are. I would suggest 5:30 UTC for Abyssal, 6UTC for Luscas and maybe an entirely different spot for DGS, but these can honestly be fit more or less everywhere. These timers would "collide" with the Daily timers but since you have 4 chances to do halcy etc it shouldnt be that big of a problem. "Hard WBs": These have the most problems and need the most drastic changes. They start way too late atm and should be moved forward a few hours. With the changes from above I would suggest the bosses to spawn at 7UTC. This would mean that even the last boss (Levi) despawns at 11PM UTC and this should be a much more managable time. I would maybe consider spreading the spawns over the days to decrease boredom on mondays/fridays and maybe make sunday a little less stressful (but its highly entrtaining tbh!). Maybe we should go back to having 3 Kraken spawns a week instead of 2 and maybe another Charybdis spawn or something to fill MON/FRI. I was hoping the release of Charybdis would fill some of the gaps on these days, but their spawn was added ontop of Levi spawns so it didnt change anything sadly. Thank you for reading through my wall of text! TL;RD: EU Timers are a mess ATM and there is zero communication going on about it. Simillarly to goldbuyer-reports I am attempting to force the publisher/dev-team to make much needed changes by posting about it on reddit (what a sad world we live in where this is the only way to get changes done...). People and entire guilds are quitting/going casual because of this and there are zero signs of work being done on the topic. This is beyond concerning. If you and your guild or friends are also heavily impacted by these changes, please share this to force gamigo to take action as they do when other obvious issues are raised on the subreddit (let me remind you of #poppygate, the goldbuyer reports, etc). I will also include a link to strawpoll where you can clearly state your opinion on the topic in less of a "black and white" way. This will be way more telling than "hey look this post on reddit has X upvotes". [link] [comments]

Gamigo update statement on exile system Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:44 PM PDT From Cosmo on the official AA discord "Hello everyone! We have an update on the Exile system and how it appears to "work" on some servers and not on others. While it may appear as though some factions are vastly weaker or more dominant than others, there is a secondary mechanic that is also considered. The exile system works around an internal score that is calculated on each server based on faction activity. If the scores of all 3 factions combined reach a specific amount, then the exile system will begin to function. If this amount is not reached, the exile system will stay inactive until that amount is reached. This means that on some servers, it may show that exiling is unavailable. This doesn't mean that the system is broken, just that more needs to be done until the scores align to the minimum internal score. Tinen, the Senior Producer on the team, is already in discussion with XL regarding the current score needed for the system to be available." ...so basically this means low population servers won't have working exiles. Explains why Wynn and Tyrenos have exiles while Denistrious and Runert don't. I think it's kinda silly because the faction imbalance some of these servers have just pushes people on the weak factions to quitting, which in turn makes more difficult to reach the combined score value to get exiles to work. Is this game worth to invest time? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:17 PM PDT what do you think about playing this game in 2020? Is it possible without p2w? or can i find a private server that completely f2p (not involving some p2w features.) [link] [comments]
Thinking about buying archeage... is it worth it? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:24 PM PDT The voice acting seems lackluster but there seems to be a lot of great rp aspects to this rerelease. I didn't play it when it first came out but it seems to give me the rp aspects that ffxiv is missing. Anyone have any info for a curious possible new player...? [link] [comments] |
