ArcheAge: Unchained - Character Reservation Update

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:43 AM PDT

    Quoting Carendash:

Character Reservation for customers who purchased Chainbreaker Founders packs will occur during the following times:

EUROPEAN REGION: Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at 10:00 AM UTC

NORTH AMERICAN REGION: Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at 10:00 AM PDT

The Shadows Revealed game client will be available for pre-download 24 hours prior to the times announced above.

We originally communicated that Character Reservation was targeted to occur simultaneously with the release of the Unchained Public Test Server (PTS) on October 1st, 2019. This was sub-optimal for several reasons:

    • We needed to adequately communicate the Character Reservation Time with enough grace period to pre-download the client.
    • Players would have to choose to either rush to PTS or reserve their character if both were available at the same time.
    • Some players felt that the weekday release time was inappropriate due to collision with life responsibilities.
    • Customers who were attempting to buy the Founders packs encountered purchase delays requiring a customer support response.

As with all communication about the Unchained release, our foremost goal is to openly communicate the moment decisions like this are made, and most importantly explain the reasons why we made them. The ambition to speak loudly and frequently about all related topics through our social channels means we're susceptible to real time adjustments like this one.

The Unchained Public Test server will continue along schedule, opening for founders tomorrow, October 1st, 2019 at 10:00 AM PDT. PTS uses the same server as the Media Preview that occurred this past weekend and character data will not be wiped. The first 2-3 days of testing will focus around load balancing with an active population cap in place, but the server will be available for constant play. Later during the week, the population cap will be increased allowing for the same atmosphere as the live server. Here is an example of some critical data we're tracking during first days of PTS:

    • Hardware configurations that support both the Unchained release, and the Shadows Revealed update.
    • The queueing system.
    • Character creation data including progression/advancement trends.
    • The impact of revamped main story quests vs. rush progression.

After this initial testing phase concludes, we'll move forward with a focus on iterating against game play systems, the marketplace, fixing feature and localization errors, and most importantly actioning community feedback.

We've created a centralized location to gather feedback about PTS/Unchained here.

Please ensure all opinions/requests are posted at this location as the dedicated teams at gamigo and XLGames are actively reading posts hourly. Side note, you're required to have a level 15 character on an ArcheAge F2P account to post, but we're working to disable this restriction so all Founders can contribute.

Thanks for your continued support of Unchained!

Post important feedback on the official Unchained forums

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:11 AM PDT

They just opened the unchained feedback forums and Khrolan is directing people on twitter to post the feedback there. ArchePass dailies, poppies, crime points, whatever you care about should be posted there if you want actual change before launch!!

    #DailyGate

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:24 PM PDT

These are just the unfiltered thoughts of someone who has been playing the game since RU Alpha and every FS after talking to people in streams and in the various archeage discords, so forgive me if it seems a bit of a jumble of words.

tl;dr: The current archepass system could have devastating consequences for people who have jobs/miss even a single day of dailies. This should be reworked for launch for overall server health. This is not a problem of putting in the time, but rather you can not put in any amount of time for even a single day missed. You will always be behind. My suggested solutions at bottom.

Before anyone says "oh no you have to put in work boohoo" I'm a neet ill be playing 18 hours a day its not a problem for me, but its a terrible idea for overall server health when people fall behind for missing 1 day, and people who start a month later have no way of catching up at all. Archepass is also much more punishing than the previous login tracker, as it gates items you have no other way to acquire.

For returning players that didn't know, your entire character progression is currently based on daily gated content, it has completely changed from what it was in older versions. These dailys include but are not limited to: Crimson Rift, Grimghast Rift, Whalesong, Aegis, Mistmerrow, Halcyona, Luscas, Hiram dailys, Arena Dailies, Red Dragon, Dungeons dailies, Gilda dailies, and Archepass dailies (And abyssal on abyssal days which makes it atleast an hour longer again). These are the most important dailies to do every single day to stay competitive, and you will be doing these for 4-5 hours minimum every day until your gear is "finished." This isn't including the fact that if you miss daily reset raid (like if you work at 8pm est like most west coasters), you are going to take a significantly longer time to finish your hiram dailies. (None of this is including all the extra things you should be doing every day like grinding mobs to get more infusions, making gold to upgrade your gear, and any "sandbox" elements you want to do in the game like pvp or farm to have fun)

The problem with this isn't missing the original pre-unchained dailies, those do not offer bound benefits that you can't get anywhere else. If you're unable to do hiram dailies for a few days, you just have to grind mobs extra hard when you get back to catch up as its all gated by labor anyways. The problem is with the current Archepass system. As the Archepass is DAILY GATED if you miss one day, you will always be a day behind. Assume someone pays $10 for the premium archepass. They miss a day, they now can not get the final reward they paid for. They will forever be a day behind on their archepass and have no way to do extra work to catch up. If they add more cool gliders and mounts to the last reward of the archepass, and you miss a day, you will currently be unable to ever get that mount/glider.

A more extreme example of this, say someone starts the game a month behind. Most games, this person should be able to catch up, but with the current system they will forever be a month behind everyone else in the game. It doesn't matter how many hours a day he plays, he will always be a month behind. Diligence coins are one of the major points of progression for your character: mounts, gliders, regrade/tempering charms, and especially serendipity stones. There is no way in the game for this person who started a month late to catch up. He will ALWAYS be a month behind no matter what, even if he plays 18 hours a day. This is just a basic design flaw in my opinion that is bad for server health, punishing people who miss a single day and off-putting to new players.

There are already way too many dailys in this game that require hours of extra grinding if you miss them, the Archepass however is both an extra daily added onto our currently overfilled plate and one that you can not make up for if you miss once.

A few simple solutions I came up with in a short time, with varying levels of punishment for missing a day or longer

    • Most Extreme (best in my opinion): Archepasses are rotating every 3 months, let people finish these at their own speed. Remove the daily limits and let hardcore players finish it in 1-2 weeks, or casual players who don't log in every day the ability to finish it at their own speed. I believe this is the best solution, as the same work is still involved but allows players to finish it at their own speed without fearing punishment for a single day.
    • Middle Ground (But probably tons of work for XL/wont happen): Allow dailys to stack up to a certain limit. If you do 0/12 dailys one day, the next day is 0/24. Miss it again and it will be 0/36, up to 0/XX limit.
    • Least Extreme: Make it a weekly limit, 0/84 missions per week instead of 0/12 per day (although I still think removing the daily limit is BY FAR the best for server health and people who can't login daily.) This will allow people to enter an archepass a week late or miss a few days in a row, but will still punish anyone from receiving archepass rewards if they start the game late into a cycle or have something like vacation for over a week. They will still never finish the archepass for that 90 day rotation.

The only argument's I have seen made against these changes in stream chats and discords has been "just don't play then" or "just quit your job if you care so much." These are terrible counter arguments, especially since im going to be playing all day long every day. These are not changes to benefit me or anyone else in the "1%" but rather the majority of players who play casually who will be severely punished without them.

edit 1: Another major issue with current archepass is that it is character based. This is easily exploited as you can make a new character, do dailys, delete the character and re-do it in 10 minutes. This pass needs to change to being account wide or will be exploited heavily already with or without these changes.

edit 2: As tons of people have been arguing in the official discord that dailys are in all mmo's and people who play more SHOULD be rewarded don't quite understand the basis of the problem here. Every daily in every other mmo can be completed if you start a day late. Every other daily in archeage if you miss isn't a big deal, you can grind extra to make up for it. Archepass can not be made up for in any way. If you miss one day of your archepass, you will never be able to get the last reward of one of your 3 archepasses. There are 3 of them and they take 31.7 days to complete each based on current media PTS exp, and rotate every 3 months. You miss out on that progression forever no matter how long you play after that. This is not a problem of casuals wanting free items or being able to keep up with "hardcore" players. Casuals will NEVER keep up with hardcore players grinding their gear no matter what. If a "hardcore" player that plays 18hrs a day has something come up and is unable to play for 1 singular day, he will not complete all 3 battlepasses like every other hardcore player. This is just a basic design flaw that doesnt exist in any other battlepass system because its not the way battlepasses are designed.

edit 3: To the people in the official discord that are spam posting over and over again that it only takes 31 days to complete an archepass, meaning you have 59 free days because "they don't expect people to do more than 1 archepass and don't plan on selling more than 1 premium archepass per person per cycle." Theres a simple rebuttal to this, you are delusional. This is a business with a clear business model, archepass is one of the very few continual incomes from their current business model and having more people be able to complete it is nothing but a net positive for the company. :)

    Easiest class to play?

What's the easiest class combination to play? I'm a new player picking up the game with a bunch of friends and well, I'm just not that great at games in general, don't want to be a burden to my group.

We should decide things as a community

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 05:39 PM PDT

PTS is almost here, and we already had a taste of AA:U via streamers

Some bugs were reported, and some issues were pointed

The company wants our feedback, so we need to decide what we want and report it to them

One major thing we should focus is the archepass system

As it is, someone already pointed that you can create a new character, get the rewards (which include labor potions), transfer, delete the character and repeat, farming labor, gold, and whatever archepasses will give

Someone else also pointed that there is no "catch up" ways if you lose a single day, you'll forever lose the last reward you aimed when you bought the season pass

So, it's important we bomb their streams, forums and Facebook posts with our opinion, or else we'll risk launching a flawled version that could've been enhanced

We still have plenty of time, let's make this game the best we can, so we create some good memories and enjoy our adventure!

TLDR: Keep an eye on what the community is worried and talking about, and echo their complaints, the more voices we have, easier they'll listen

    Zephyr - Archery/Song/Swiftblade

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 05:46 PM PDT

TL;DR -- Swiftblade allows you to stack 3k defense pen and gain 30% movement speed for 10 seconds, every 18 seconds, with tons of movement abilities and damage.

So, I love theorycrafting. You have the obvious movement and attack/crit benefits from songcraft, but here is the interesting thing about Swiftblade. Going 6 points deep into it gives you so much utility if you use the tree only for mobility. You get the following:

    • 18m teleport, along with a 18m recall within 5 seconds of casting teleport. This provides huge outplay potential.

    • 14m dash that applies Swift Mark.

    • AoE stealth ability.

    • Magical shield that lasts for 15 seconds which decreases the effectiveness of Slows on the caster by -70%.

    • An ability that increases your Attack Speed by +350 for 10 seconds. If you receive damage during this duration, it increases by an additional +50%.

The main and simple combo I'm referring to in the TLDR is using charged bolt(slow), then Storming Assault(14m dash) through your opponent to apply a 5 second snare, which also applies the Hawk's Shadow passive below:

    • If your target has the debuff Swift Mark, then upon damaging your target, you receive a buff called Hawk's Shadow, which increases Movement Speed by +5% and Physical Defense Penetration by +500 for each stack, and lasts for 10 seconds. Stacks up to 6 times.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this build would have move mobility than Ebonsong or Primeval, and way more damage than either class. The amount of defense penetration you get would help against plate users. I can see Archery/Song/Swift and Archery/Song/Occult dominating open world and arena's. Looking forward to trying it because I haven't seen any streamers actually experimenting with any devious builds.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 03:38 PM PDT

So I will play this game as a casual.

I want to do some professions like fishing and have my farm and stuff hehe.

Will I be able to get land and a house or will everything be gone?

Is it enough to have one character?

What kind of advantage does it bring to have more than one character?

Some Questions from a New Player

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:37 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

A couple of questions that i have that aren't very clear are:

1.) The community keeps mentioning how insane the release of Unchained will be when it comes to land purchasing. How can I be ready to get good land? What are some things I should know so that I pick land that is useful, and can do it early on with release so I don't get whatever's left over?

2.) Is PTS simply PTS; like reserving a name or making a character restricts it to PTS and doesn't have anything to do with the release, correct? If I'm not interested in testing, than I can ignore any the release of/any news about PTS, right?

I really just don't want to miss out on anything and want to start on the right foot with Unchained as I've always wanted to play AA, but until now was told that everything was P2W.

Thanks in advance for your guys' help! I massively appreciate it!

What is up with PK lovers? Stop legitimize it

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 06:00 PM PDT

I see too many "PK is legit" , "reduce jail time" or "you can steal green packs" things around forum and Reddit. Since when It is legit? You are killing a faction mate to steal their stuff. Of course you are going to jail and spend labor. You can kill other factions or If you wanna be "free", why don't you go for pirate faction? You want to use faction's raids, but you kill them when you want. You want to live in a society as a potential thief. Nope.

I assume they're relatively balanced in terms of actual gameplay of course.

Any room for plants on the outside of 15 gilda 16x16 house?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 03:18 PM PDT

Hi! On release I had my 16x16 farm filled with lemon trees next to my basic house that had a few small aspens outside for aesthetics.

Is there still space outside the cheap 15 gilda house? Also, is it "upgradeable"?

    Upgrading Preorder packs?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:05 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I couldn't find the information anywhere: is there a possibility to upgrade from one preorder pack to a higher tier one? For example, if I buy the Silver 25 USD preorder pack today and I end up loving the PTS and want to upgrade to Gold or Archeum pack, is it possible? Did they communicate at all on this?

Because the support doesn't seem very responsive on the matter (or any matter) (which is a bit worrying).

question about pre-launch character creation/name reserve

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:27 PM PDT

so I understand name reserve is now postponed till Oct 5th, my question is is there a server + faction cap/limit on the day of character reservation?

For instance, let's say I wanna pre-create a character on Tyrenos West on Oct 5th, do I have to rush to log in to make my character because there will be a server/faction limit and it's first come first serve? Or does the limit not apply till the actual launch date and will be apply in a queue time basis?

Download the current MTS build for PTS day tomorrow!

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:55 PM PDT

I'm not 100% sure if this is supported or will get you banned so caveat emptor, but here are some simple instructions to download the current media test build so that you're ready for tomorrow's PTS launch!

    Close the Glyph client.

Open this file: C:/Program Files (x86)/Glyph/Library/GlyphLibrary.xml

    Remove this line:

    <RequiredEntitlement>AAU_MEDIA_TEST_SERVER_ACCESS</RequiredEntitlement>

    Save the file.

Right click on GlyphLibrary.xml and click the "Read only" checkbox.

    Close Glyph and repoen it.

Go to Archeage, change it to public test server, then click Install.

!!!IMPORTANT!!!: Once you've downloaded it, go back to the GlyphLibrary.xml file and uncheck "Read only". This ensures you get updates to the glyph client. If they change the server IP for the PTS tomorrow, you'll have that update as long as you restart glyph!

Wiki Update: Finished laying out the zone section and finished the Ship section. Now onto the Trade section.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 11:25 PM PDT

    Hello Archeage fans,

Recently I have been trying to update the subreddit wiki, hopefully in time for the 6.0 PTR release. Thanks to your feedback, over the past week I have finished laying out the "zone" section and completely finished the "ships" section of the wiki.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/archeage/wiki/ships

    https://www.reddit.com/r/archeage/wiki/zones

Currently in the process of waiting for PTS access to finish updating the "zone" section, which is linked above. Since so many dailies are changing it would be pointless to update old information. A quick question for new, returning, and veteran players. What information do you really want to prioritize within the trade section?

Thanks as always for your input. Please let everyone know that (parts of) our subreddit wiki has been updated for 6.0.

    Tips on Blade Dancer build

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 06:27 PM PDT

    https://archeagecodex.com/us/calc/491086

That's what I've come up with atm. I wanted to dip a bit more into support with Songcraft and a little less on the dps side. Will this build work decently well for casual/midcore pve/pvp ( mainly large scale pvp). I'm still pretty new to Archeage so if there is some key skill/combos I'm missing please let me know how to adjust the build. I'd like to keep the 6th Songcraft passive but if missing some stuff in Battle/Shadow is hurting me too much I can drop a point in Song.

Is the game more pve or pvp sided?

Im deciding between a dark runner or blade dancer but can someone explain to me what the classes have over each other? As in ones better for pve/pvp/dmg/survivability

What type of gear and stats should I be focusing on for dark runner or blade dancer?

Will there be a limit on how many professions you can take like crafting trading etc?

Which profession is the most difficult/profitable?
