| Lunagems - Regraded T1 vs T2/3 Posted: 20 Jan 2019 07:07 AM PST So here's my dilemma where I'm looking for opinions of others in the same situation or who have experience with the KR version. I'm an older player who doesn't play fanatically any more. I have decent funds and ability to make more but hardly unlimited. For my gear I usually look for the sweet, mid-tier spot between basic level and insanely expensive for another 0.1% grade. Thus most of my lunagems are T2. Right at my price point where it's a good step up from T1 but not as insanely (for me) expensive to gem as all T3 would be. With the latest patch part of this has changed. Ranked up T1 gems (especially when we get ranks 4 and 5) will be significantly better than T2 and only marginally worse than T3 for a decent fraction of the cost. So far this is sounding ideal for my use-case. They effectively become bound to the weapon (destroyed on removal) but this isn't an immediate drawback as I don't think I'd ever change them out anyway. XL seems to have recognized that this is a better system for many players based on the existence of the Splendid Lunagem charm in the Marketplace for 1G for another 24 days. For those that don't know - this charm converts a T2 gem into a Rank 3 T1 without having to re-socket it. So the only reasons I (or anyone I think) wouldn't go ahead and do this are:
It is about #3 that I am wondering if that is a real future possibility or not (it would be awesome to get KR players perspective here). Here comes some game theorizing + psycho analyzing of XL Games. I'm guessing the existence of the Ranking system for Lunagems probably comes from the following motivations:
1 and 2 are not mutually exclusive however if the motivation is purely #1 then we will inevitably see a ranking system for T2/T3 gems as well. It'll be insanely expensive and insanely better - i.e. a Rank 5 T3 gem will blow away any other gem. For example if the same percentage increase is used, a Rank 5 T3 Fireglow gem could be +11.2% crit dmg and a Rank 2 T2 could be 8%. If, however, XL recognizes the problem with the inordinate power gap between tiers of gems they may never do this because it just continues the problem and the ranking system was implemented to help shrink it. I'm planning to watch for 5.6 updates for a little bit longer but am leaning towards converting my T2's before the Splendid Lunagem charms expire in a few weeks as this appears to be a limited time offer. Note: Please no comments about Trion/Gamigo - they have a history of next to zero influence on game design decisions. They control the cash shop and try to keep the lights on - that's it. So this is all about XL Games. TLDR: Convert T2 gems to ranked T1? Yes or no? If no why not if you have no intention of ever upgrading to T3? [link] [comments]  |
